WHAT IS THE BOWEN TECHNIQUE?

The Bowen Technique is a straight forward, gentle hands-on therapy which is non intrusive and very effective.  It affects the body in ways which promote healing, pain relief and recovery of energy. The Practitioner uses thumbs and fingers in a rolling action on precise parts of the body which aim to disturb the muscle, soft tissue and energy within the body encouraging the body to re-align, rebalance and heal itself.  After a short sequence of moves the patient is left resting to allow time for their body to respond and make subtle adjustments which start the healing process.

The Bowen Technique can be performed through light clothing. There is no hard tissue manipulation, no massage, no oils, and no prolonged pressure.  No equipment is used. The experience of the technique is gentle, subtle and relaxing -  each treatment usually takes about 45 minutes.  Two or three treatments at weekly intervals can often be sufficient to achieve lasting benefits.  Before each treatment a consultation takes place to establish what treatment/sequence of moves would be beneficial.

The Bowen Technique is holistic and aims to balance the whole body rather than just treat specific symptoms.

As it is so subtle it is recommended that other physical therapies are not mixed with it (during the course of treatment). If you are having any medical treatment or are on medication it would be helpful to discuss this with your Bowen Therapist during your consultation and it would be advisable to tell your GP you are having Bowen treatment.
